Shrine start & finish for Commonwealth Games Cycle Race

The Shrine of Remembrance is a very popular place to be at the moment. It is from here that the Melbourne Commonwealth Games Cycling road race is to start and finish. The monument was thought to be an ideal viewing platform for this historic event. It has an upper balcony which boasts some of the best views of Melbourne CBD.

Spectators, however, will be dissapointed. The Shrine has been virtually enclosed by temporary fencing to prevent people from accessing the upper terrace on the Eastern side. From here a grandstand view would have been had!

The Shrine will be open as normal during the race but anyone wishing to 'visit' the upper balcony will be turned away. The stairwells will be roped off and out of bounds to everyone whilst the race is in progress.

Members of the Victoria Police will be on hand throughout the event to enforce the ruling.
