Cenotaph & Eternal Flame

The Cenotaph and Eternal flame are a part of the 2nd world war memorial on the Northern forecourt area of the Shrine reserve. The Flame was lit by Queen Elizabeth II in 1954 and has burned continuously since! It represents eternal life for those who have served.

At the top of the Cenotaph is a large statue of six servicemen carrying a fallen comrade draped in the National flag. They are 2 Sailors at the front ( Senior service ), then 2 Soldiers and 2 airmen at the rear.
